If the eagle was removed recently, I guess there would be a clean outline in the dirt. So assuming the soldier himself removed the eagle to avoid problems in case he was captured, why didn't he remove the medals and skulls, which are much easier to remove?
Well you never know, but this story sounds a bit fishy. Selling the jacket in a frame also gives the seller a handy excuse for not showing the inside, and other details which might reveal a different story.

Yeeek
This 'Panzerman' was wearing "The trousers he was wearing were the black, leather reinforced riding breeches, as worn by the Allgemeine SS..." Now, just for a moment, imagine our "Allgemeine SS" guy, in his leather breeches, bailing out of his Panzer as the 101st Airborne drops in on him. Which "Allgemeine SS" unit was at Normandy, anyway? I must have missed that one. I note also that somehow, even though our barn find managed to keep all of its decorations, pants (surprised he didn't bail out of his socks as well), "Included with this set are the super rare "Allgemeine SS black socks piped in aluminum".... ....Someone actually asked the question "Are the buttons present?". Our hero says the buttons are gone, but generously will throw in another set . The wrap was folded up, based on the rust marks....so how did the buttons 'rot' out of the stitching? And then managed to get lost?
There is soooo much here to have fun with, it would take me the rest of the night. Maybe this is, in fact, where the "haunted EKII" came from!
Next up, the "cursed PAB"

Shouldn't the ribbon bar be one piece, instead of four seperate ribbons? I've heard of finds like this in the east where German soldiers ditched their uniforms for civilian clothes to try to avoid capture by the Russians, so it's not impossible that this is what he says it is.Last edited by Over_Heer; 01-26-2005, 12:06 AM.

Wooha!
Who died in that wreck? Are the bones of the original owner/soldier sold along with it? The whole thing stinks like a barn-recovered pile of SS tunics (or horse cr*p either one will do)! No thanks.
My humble opinion only. I think the frame may be worth the high bid at the moment?
