    M44 tunic opinions

    Hi.

I would like to get some opinions on this tunic. Unfortunately, I do not have many pictures because this item is in possession of the seller.

Is it a modified M43 tunic which happens to be dated 44?
I can't tell if the eagle is hand sewn or not. The eagle would have been machine sewn from the factory and the M44 eagle doesn't look original to the tunic, it should be settled in to the wool nap of the tunic. As for the collar tabs, they should be the 3rd or 4th pattern tabs in mouse gray.

      Thanks Glenn.

I will ask the seller to give me more photos of the insignas.

        Hello,

Somebody needs to clue me in to why this is an M44 tunic? It is a six button front with no waist band. To me it appears to be a heavily shortened M43 tunic.

No matter what it is none of the insignia looks appropriate to the tunic.

M-44's are a 6 button front but the top button is usually not used with the neck worn open. I am also not seeing a hook and eye at the neck.

The P looks like the top of the interior pocket and the W looks like the waistband.Stamps are typical for a M44.

            Glenn,

Got you. I couldn't see the waist band from the outside view and it looked like it would have to be pretty big. It must be the angle of the photo.

Although the insignia is all good in my opinion I don't care for the type of insignia on here. Thanks.

The eagle would certainly be fine if originally sewn...The collar tabs I can't really tell due to the crap photos but in the second photo they look like they could be the later mouse grey type.

                Glen,

The M44 eagle would be fine if originally sewn. To me it doesn't look like it is. All three pictures of the collar tabs look like these are the first pattern einheits tabs. The signal blitz is a pre 1940 pattern which could have been worn but the gefreiter stripe seems contrived to me. It looks like a single piece of tress mounted on a felt backing. Much better photos are needed off the mannequin in a well lit space. The gefreiter stripe looks subdued to me one time then looks like well worn silver tress in another.

The 2nd photo of the bottom of the collar tab looks more grey to me but the others look like they could be the earlier types.
