Nice find. Yes you should get the visors repaired, as they are in good condition, plus find a good dry cleaner, that will clean the jackets & pants, they should come out looking good!

I also think that there is hope and that these war souvenirs will clean up reasonably well with expert help.
Interesting indeed the LW flak straps on the tunic. No doubt period found and period worn like that! It happened!
The mounted leather reenforced breeches are also a nice match for (mounted) artillery!
The Visor (private purchase "Eigentumstuck" marked) also very much repairable and worth it, all of it makes for a nice set!!
Nice bonus early breast eagles on both uniforms, Der Spiess tresse is also a plus (Battery sergeant major) !

Nice find J. A shame about the condition, but as the others have said there is hope. The tunics will not come completely clean, but will be a little more presentable with some professional help.

        Regards!

Do not take these to a dry cleaner for standard dry cleaning, everything will fall apart. You will need to find someone that knows what they are doing with the preservation of textiles beyond a standard cleaning modern clothing service.

              Early Uniform

A beautiful set. Early 3rd Reich Heer dress uniform with the early style tresse sewed collar with early breast eagle. I would assume this is a rare set since it would have been worn during the initial timeframe for the build up of the German Army around the mid 1930s and by the unit's top NCO/ Der Spiess. I hope you can salvage it.

BenVK is the man to talk to about fixing the visor cap. Matt

                        J,

I sent you a PM with an offer to help.

Here are a couple of samples of my work:

                        http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=rudolf

Cheaper/safer for you to keep the items in the US for decontamination/restoration vs. sending them overseas. I can assure you if Customs in any country opened the package and saw these uniforms they would call a HAZMAT team in and burn them.

Also, I agree with Johnny - DO NOT send these to a dry cleaner.
