Breats eagles that could be...But has anyone seen 'em?

    Hi All,

I hope everyone had a good time seeing the New Year in. Now we're kicking off 2015, I wanted to ask some questions about breast eagles that could - in theory - exist, but which I have never seen. I should qualify this question by saying that I have only been collecting seriously for the past seven years, after a long break from my first burst of collecting in my teenage years. So I am not speaking from a base of several decades of collecting. Oh, and apologies for asking questions about branches of service that extend a bit beyond the army.

So, eagle 1: has anyone seen a flatwire version of a Coastal Artillery bevo woven breast eagle (1st or second pattern)?

Eagle 2: Has anyone seen a flatwire version of the Kriegsmarine (yellow on navy backing) bevo breast eagles, in first or second patterns?

Eagle 3: Has anyone ever seen a flatwire version of the first or second pattern bevo breast eagles for Kriegsmarine admin?

Eagle 4: Has anyone ever seen a tropical bevo flatwire breast eagle for the Afrika Korps? The versions for enlisted men show up quite regularly, but I have never seen a flatwire version of these eagles. The same could be said for Kriegsmarine tropical and KM admin. Has anyone ever seen these eagles?

Eagle 5: I have seen Luftwaffe bevo woven eagles for both enlisted men and officers/NCOs (flatwires) on normal blue-grey backing. Has anyone ever seen tropical Luftwaffe bevo breast eagles, whether for enlisted men or for officers/NCOs (flatwires)? I certainly have not.

Happy 2015 to everyone, and - as always - many thanks to everyone who takes the time to reply. It is much appreciated!

      Possible on Officer sidecaps

      Possible on Officer sidecaps

Yes had one in the 1970's and sadly let someone talk me out of it. Was told it was KM trop. administration but has that been proved.

LW Herman Meyer caps have a version

In case you haven't seen this thread, there's plenty of rare birds to look over, study and it's a great overall reference on variations

          Hello Mark,

          My computer is up again!!
          1. No I have never seen one.

          2. Yes, I have seen a Gold Flatwire BeVo Breast eagle on Dark Blue Rayon, second pattern.

          3. I have not seen a breast eagle but owned for a short time a Silver Flatwire BeVo cap eagle on dark blue, second pattern.

          4. I have never seen a Flatwire BeVo Heer DAK Breast or Cap eagle. I have never seen a roundel for the above eagles either. I have seen a lot of first pattern waffenrock eagles on tan that were supposed to be example of the above. I have never seen any KM Tropical Flatwire BeVo eagle, breast or cap.

          5. I have seen a Flatwire Luftwaffe Breast eagle on Blue but never on a tropical background. I have seen enlisted Luftwaffe Tropical BeVo eagles for the cap and breast.

KM Kriegsmarine eagle doubtfull pattern IMO

Sad to read that John passed away.

I have my personal doubts about the kriegsmarine eagles yellow on blue (above #27) and blue on white (#67) in John his thread. The bird is such a geometrical mismatch that I can not believe this would haven been produced and accepted during the war. Could it have been an act of resistance by an occupied tailer as happened with the shortened sidecap produced in France?

Anyway, I never observed this type in pictoral evidence, never seen originally mounted on uniforms, nor in ancient catalogues nor older reference books such as Angolia. Yes it is posted in Barrafato's book on the KM, a nice picture book, but with several fake items listed without mentioning that they are postwar copies.

This will hurt of course every KM collector who has this type of eagle in his collection, but that is my point of view about these eagles and I am always open to learn, preferable based on evidence, not on emotions.

Shoot and enjoy collecting (KM of course)!
