Super Panzer eagle

This one just landed and I think is the finest quality bullion eagle I have yet had in hand.

The backing appears to be black rather than blue so I was wondering what kind of tunic this may have come off- the cloth looks Italian- tropical?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Or dark blue, which was sewn on kriegsmarine uniforms?

I would say a faded gold eagle on a very dark blue ,regarding the yellow threads you have on the back of the eagle ?
Place this bird on a real black cloth and you 'll see if it's dark blue or black ?

I know what you mean. I had a gefreiter rank insignia that was such a dark green I swear it was black.

I had an officers tunic that you would have swore the collar was black but it was just a really dark green.Had some officers eagles that were the same.


Outside in the daylight held against something black like a Panzer wrapper then you can tell for sure.

Then again it could be a green KA eagle just as well on such a dark green as implied. Makes more sense with the field grey tunic material (if an original cut off). Definitely gold bullion.

Thanks for the comments guys, I think I have cracked this one and it is indeed a very nice KM officers eagle ripped from some kind of fatigue uniform,

I found the exact same one that was worn by U-boat ace KL Merten as a POW which is owned by a member here
