Collar Tabs Help

Been following another thread, and have been confused by the different shades of green, and would request some advice as to the designation of these....

here is where the nightmare comes into play... The PzGrn units didn't exist until 1942, so the only organizations that would have had these made during the time to put on waffenrocks would have been Jager, Kradschutzen or police. If I was a betting man, which I have been known to do from time to time, I would call it a Jager set for a Waffenrock. I have some pics on file of some killer Jager Waffenrocks with insignia just like this. So Jaeger or Police would be the likely answer, I have seen pics of PzGrn pipped walking out tunics with this type of insignia on it as well. Matt

I know almost nothing about Police insignia but thought Schutzen was a darker green? I would say Panzer Gren too, the waffenrocks were not produced under regulation after the War started but the piped service tunics for officers were allowed and these collar tabs would have been worn with a Geschmückte Rock. "True" jager/GJ color is dark green. Early it was identical to HV Green in some examples and very dark. Early in the War is became the typical darker Jager green it was during WWI and Pz. Gren was the toxic green but the insignia used over lapped as the War went on.

The color of the tabs Ron posted is for Heer Rifle regiments assigned to armored units. As Matt said these later were redesignated as PzG units. See pages 330 - 343 of Waffenrock, by Curley and Stewart for a nice selection of tunics with this color in wear. This distinction is further substantiated by the colors of the two Standard Bearer's Shields I posted (Grass Green for Jag/Gj and Light Green for Rifle). No colors (flags or standards) were produced for the PzG hence no association with that color, one was produced however for II/Sch. Rgt 1.

If there is information to contradict this I am up for learning.

"Lime green"-piped tunics existed starting 1935 and thus the light green standard bearers' insignia. The collar tabs in question might be more to the police green but, if I remember correctly (plenty of room for doubt there) the "herringbone" down the center of each bar is different on police tabs from army tabs. Someone want to look that up?
