209 Inf. Reg. shoulder board question

Hello guys..

Just a question.
What does that piece of red/white/black cord around the board mean?
It's only around one of the boards.

Does anyone have something like this on a tunic, or wartime pictures?

I think it could be a unit ID band. You find them in many different variant styles on board. Yes they are well documented in period photos.

This band is an interesting one as it actually represents the division. 58th Infantry division.

Usually I have associated these with a battalion id for a regiment but this case for this unit and this band indicates a division


Take a look at this thread I did for a book and some straps for the 154th Inf regt- 58th ID.

As stated by the author who served under that division the whole war while on occupation duty in Belgium dated 4 July 1940 to 24 April 1941. ,

" About this time we received a small black, white, and red cord to wear over our left shoulder, indicating we were members of the 58th Infantry Division."

I really found it interesting that in this case the band designated the division.

Yours for the 209th is a different variation but correct colors twist and on the left shoulder.
