Question regarding uniform upgrades

Hello all,

Was it common for NCOs to dress up their walking-out or parade tunics with officer's collar tabs, bullion eagles, etc?

Dave,
You see many Parade Dress and Walking out uniforms that have upgraded officer style eagles. They could be purchased and applied by a Tailor to dress up the uniform. You do not see EM & NCOs sewing Officer Quality Collar Tabs on these uniforms. Remember that the German Army promoted many EM and NCOs to Reserve Officer or Krieges Offizier for the duration of the war. This was a lengthy process combining Professional Education and Front Line duty. In the final stage the Soldier earned the privelege to wear Officer Quality Collar Tabs along with Senior NCO Boards normally with two pips.
