I also have a couple uniforms with these sewn in numbers/letters too and am still trying to decide if they are for owner identification or if they are museum inventory control codes.

These kind of markings ar not so rare. Here`re two examples from my collection. The first mark is in an M.43 Tunic, the second mark is in an M.43 Rundbundhose (better known as KEILHOSE). Both pieces came from an attic in bavaria. Sure not from an museum or theatre
