    M36 Oddity on the Estand

    Thoughts on this oddity?

It has belt holes in rear, none in front, is fully lined, no visible stamps...

Early DDR I believe...and DDR buttons removed for that reason!
Also the shoulderstrap loop (1 remaining) is very narrow (officer style) could be another DDR indicator,
as well as the cuff with no splits...not typical for third reich...

Yeah the buttons were removed BEFORE you found it... no prob! So you got it buttonless for a reason...I believe it is actually collectable and therefor valuable as an early DDR tunic!

Its a hunch ...but based on some of the tunic's non TR characteristics its post war in my view.
Good idea you alreaduystarted a thread in the DDR section where the true experts hang out. I am not a DDR expert.
Who knows maybe its early West German BGS (Bundes Grenz Schutz/border guards...), another possibility.

Its a second pattern east german army tunic and they are hard to find. The first model made from 1956/57 with split cuffs identical to wehrmacht tunics. This service/field tunic was used from around 1957/58 to the middle of 1964 after that they changed the lining from cotton to a rayon type material .also the belt hook holes and inside bandage pocket were removed. Hope this helps.
