Collar tabs ?

GAF, you don't seem to believe that these are foreign volunteer, specifically Cossack. That's fine, but could I ask what you think they are?

There are a number of photos in this thread showing their period use, and this pattern of tab has been known in collectors circles as Cossack - because they are.

So I say again: what do you think they are?

...and look at their trousers - don't look much like mounted Cossacks to me. Impossible to tell what kind of collar insignia they are wearing - but it's very clear in the larger photos showing these in wartime use.

Russian volunteers - in fact, most of the eastern volunteers had unique collar tabs in terms of color, and tress application. Tress was used to denote rank, but no organization used the crossed lance design besides Cossacks.

I myself am trying to understand who they are.
As long as it just photos of soldiers with these tabs.
Soldiers on the picture to "myuttse" rather than "Kubanka"
so my opinion - the average soldier battalion east

Alex, we are talking about collar tabs, not unit standards. The ROA sleeve shield and others also had crosses on them - but on collar tabs, crossed lances = Cossack.

I'm out of the country, and my reference books and collection are beyond my reach. Good luck on your information quest - but I would start by buying some reference books on this fascinating area of collecting.
