Heer Pioneer Shoulder Boards Opinions

Hi guys, I would like your opinions on these shoulder boards. I have not seen officer boards made this way. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like original regular Infantry shoulder boards.
Someone sewed black fabric over the edges. Since there is what appears to be moth damage on the white felt extending under the black fabric - I'm inclined to think this black piping might have been added recently.

Thanks naxos for taking the time to comment. I have had them for about 25 years so could have been done before that. Unless moths don't like that type of fabric.

Hi guys, any other opinions? Has anyone seen shoulder boards like these? Any thoughts about these boards would be greatly appreciated

The added piping is done by hand and is unique to the pair, I have seen piping colored to a different color and Army boards used to make SS style boards with rayon like this added but not a pair altered in this way. Compare the rayon with M44 type boards and if it is the same they probably are a wartime modification.

Look at post #253 in this thread and you will see a similar board (different Waffenfarbe). Dying of the edge of Infanterie boards was also done in some units that became GJ regiments 13 & 91 come to mind off hand.

That's a neat modification! From an officer who transferred from regular Infantry to Sturmpionieren (Assault Engineers)...Who knows?

Agree probably post War added, the wear on the boards themselves when compared to the wear on the added black piping...
