Interesting piping

Here is a board from a tunic being sold on the stand from the family. I want to point out the piping. I have a couple boards with this style piping and mine were from a vet source as well. This piping is not a common pattern, and I wanted to point this out.

Hi, I have several examples of this too and it is uncommon, I think it is a woven wool felt.

Are you sure those are the same Dave? They look like a different fabric and weave in the images. The first ones are a wool felt with little or no nap.

I will take a better photo, John, the piping appears the same to me. My straps have had mixed reviews, on this forum, I know the source and really am not concerned.

I have an example or two of the pipping used on the tunic boards. I have always liked it. Its a nice tunic, just over priced still in my opinion. Wish the wool hand't been cut to fix the tunic and the patch added but its done now. Also it should be noted that it could be a Pz School and not necessarily a Schutzen soldiers tunic. If there is no sign of a numeral I would assume Pz school tunic, still uncommon boards. Wish they still had the chainstitching. Matt

Here are a couple of my boards like the first one. The transport has been snacked on a bit. I think when they were new they had a little more nap like the artillery board.

DaveJ's boards have wool flannel used for the piping. I'm sure the Germans used whatever was available to make the piping when they didn't have any of the regular piping on hand. I wouldn't say that the boards aren't genuine based solely on the use of wool flannel for the piping.

The boards shown in post # 3 do not look like flannel to me, rather kord. Maybe better pictures will help. I do not think they are wool? Hard to tell for me in the image.
