How about this comparison? Tresse in question in the middle. It has more elongated/stretched out squares...

Hello Michel,

From what I understand the "elongated" tress was used during WWII but not to the extent as the standard tress with square diamonds. Seeing a rare sleeve insignia with a uncommon tress is a big red flag for me. Is the red base cloth a fine badge cloth or just a plain felt or wool?

The thread says that original long-diamond tresse is always in aluminium wire, while the post-war tresse is synthetic.
