Patch on Estand

I am not a major authority on cloth - I am doing my best to learn as I go along - but it seems to me that these patches are usually machine-embroidered. I have two of these, and both of them are machine-embroidered. You can tell quite easily, because the circular 'wheels' are absolutely perfect, and the spacing and size of the 'teeth' round the edge of the 'wheel' are regular and quite precise. That is pretty tough to achieve if you are sewing by hand. The patch on the estand looks like a hand-sewn version of one of these machine-embroidered patches. Maybe that used to happen, but I tend to stick to text-book stuff. I do know that I certainly couldn't sew that well, and if I tried to make one of these patches myself, it would look really lousy!

The reason that I believe this patch should be discussed in my opinion is the backing material and the way the piping is sewn on to the patch.

Here are a couple of shots of reproduction patches that have had the same backing material and the piping added in the same manner.

However the piping looks to be different in shade at least, and I suppose there are only so many ways to attach such piping. I also see a difference in the point at which the ends of the piping join, in your examples you can see where its folded over, on the estand patch its "seamless" to the front view. as for backing material. well yes it looks similar in manufacture.........

The backing material is almost, if not, identical. The skill of the sewer will make the cord around the patch seamless or not. The thread color is identical the stitching has the same uniformity on both yours and my patches to even include using a double thread.
I still believe that this is nothing more than a reproduction by a person with a skill at embroidery.

Fred, I see the similarity: backing cloth, double green thread. For me the same as the ones you posted.
Also I have never seen one of these hand embroidered, although an excellent job.
This patch is not for me...
