Anyone recognize this name . . . found in an Infantry Officer tunic ???

"Hptm. Nestmeier" is what I read too. Hauptmann Nestmeier, could that be right as to the rank?

I did not find him on any of the rank lists or the War graves site but they are not complete and do not list reserve officers.

Thanks, guys - I knew it would be a long-shot . . . and I'm sure there are many low-rank Infantry Officers who will never be tracked down.

Seems "Hptm. Nestmeier" may prove to be just another one in the bunch . . .

There usually are files for almost all prewar officers regardless of rank and for some of the early War officers and a 1943 unpublished list of all active duty officers but it is not indexed and difficult to use. We do not know where or if the service files for wartime and and reserve officers are or even if they survived. There are single page documents that will report unit assignments and full name DOB etc. for most officers if they were MIA/KIA and include place of death or where they went missing.
