Question Emblems on tropical tunic

by looking around this forum I found a picture here showing a german soldier with a unique tunic:

He is wearing a Heer- breast eagle but Luftwaffe collar tabs.
To my knowledge anti airkraft units even in the Heer had Luftwaffe emblems- and the special Heeresflak had emblems of the Heer with patches showing them as AA-Gun artillery units

Does someone have an idea? Or was this case a result of equipment shortage?

I am sure it was a shortage of luftwaffe uniforms. It appears that he is wearing a heer tunic with Luft tabs, a heer hat and a Luft Flak badge.

Correct Fred, the first Luftwaffe Flack units to arrive in Afrika were issued Army tunic and caps. They replaced the Army collar tabs and to some degree the Army cap eagles with Luft insignia.

It is well known that the flak units attached to the DAK wore Heer tunics with Luft tabs because of shortages of Luft trop tunics early during the campaign.

Sometimes you will see the caps with luft eagle attached and they still have the heer eagle underneath. There was a killer example of a Heer cap with luft trop insignia added posted on the forum last year.
I also believe that Mark G has a Heer tunic with marks of where luft collar tabs were once sewn but don't quote me on that one... But it was very common and I know I have pics of luft guys in Heer tunics, you used what you could get. Matt
