Bought this Infantry Waffenrock Tunic a couple of weeks ago. The jacket was worn by a NCO in 87th Infantry Regiment, the front is free from moth holes, the back has a number of small ones in the elbows and back tail. I wonder about the eagle stitching, when the wearer rose to join the NCO ranks, he would have received another eagle, quite possibly stitching on himself or not ? Haven't found any makers label or markings on the lining. I’ve been trying to date the jacket, could members hazard a guess at what the production year might be. Any further information and comments appreciated.

In most cases NCOs wore this kind of eagles in their Waffenröcke,if that is what you ask.Hand stiched also.In yours seems hastily removed and reapplied.

I do not care for the application of the eagle. The eagle should have some base material around the eagle itself. It appears to have been a mothed or trimmed eagle. I would expect to see this style of eagle with the upgraded NCO collar tabs but one in alot better condition.

The waffenrock is a private purchase so being devoid of a tailor label or name tag the only other marking it might have would be a Gepruft stamp they are usually on the bottom of the inside of the waffenrock. As far as dating the waffenrock that would be something that is not possible unless some unit research dictated other wise so somewhere between 1935 and 1940 of course.Originally posted by soldon View PostComment

The collar tabs are an upgrade from the regular em tabs that was available for soldiers with tailor made uniforms. Usually this was done by NCO's.

I wouldn't say that they are rare but more overlooked.In Tim Curley and Neil Stewart's book "WAFFENROCK" there are quite a few examples.
The collar tabs and cuff bars were an option for soldier to put on to their private purchae uniforms.
