    Gebirgspioniere Leutnant Tunic

    Hi all,

Just picked this one up from Mike Davis over at Virtual Grenadier (thanks Mike!). It's a converted EMs tunic for a Gibirgspioniere Leutnant. Looks like the collar had green badge cloth and new tabs added, and some tailoring such as shortening the skirt and moving the lower pockets up, and some slight lengthening of the sleeves, and the addition of a dagger suspender.

    Some interesting features:

Collar tabs are officer's tabs but much narrower than normal officer's tabs - probably specially made to fit the smaller collar. Boards and tabs show much wear - I also think the eagle was replaced at some stage as it doesn't show the same wear as the shoulder boards or tabs:

Also, the tabs were sewn with different threads (though the tabs are definitely a matched pair. Some faint evidence of older tabs (looks like they may have been the original factory applied tabs before the conversion).

Eagle is sewn through the lining:

Some stamps (alas no unit stamps...):

(Not sure what "GECH PIRRA" means? Anyone able to help?)

Also found this in the pocket:

Not really sure what it is or if it even should be part of this tunic? Anyone able to help here?

    Thanks!

    Looks nice.

Collar tabs appear to have been sewn at the same time and applied with the same thread used when the collar was altered and had the dark green badge cloth applied (circled in red) also the thread attaching the eagle looks to match the thread used on the left collar tab.

The ribbon bar loops look odd where the CCC and the ribbon bar are overlaping.

Back in 1993-94 I owned a Pioneer officer tunic exactly like this one loops and threads exactly the same eagle sewn through liner like that even had a paper POW tag with it like this one...only mine didn't have the edelweiss patch on the sleeve. Super nice tunic congratulations.
