Need opinions on Swastika Ring with Dedication Inscription...

    Hi all,

I received this ring with a lot that included several swords and daggers (a nice lot indeed). I know there are a ton of fake rings out there, but this one has a nice hand engraved dedication that appears nicely worn. What do you guys think about this one? Authentic? Any ideas about what the engraving reads?

    Thanks!

As a question from someone who doesn't know about these things, would German silver smiths mark rings with the English "Sterling silver" or is there a German equivalent? I'm a bit worried about the scratches over the engraving too, how does that happen when the ring is on the finger, or was it perhaps on a chain? Just looks like someone is trying to age the inscription. Having said that I'm only guessing so it will be interesting to see what people have to say.

Looks to me to be extremely worn sideways inside, that seems a bit strange to me. Seems to have been done on purpose, like with grit paper or something..I am in doubt of it's autenticity..

The German equivalent would be "925" (as in parts per thousand). There are other German silver content marks, like 800, 835...etc. I would not expect to see the word "Sterling" on a German-made ring.
In my opinion, the wear on the "Sterling" stamp (which presumbably was there prior to the inscription) is not consistent with the wear to the rest of the inside of the ring. Wearing a ring over time would make the inside smoother, and fine tool marks would be worn away long before any engraving or stamping.

It is entirely possible that the ring started out as a blank signet ring of English origin. It was obviously hand tooled (not mass-produced). One suggestion would be to check to see if the inscription is historically plausible. If so, then the question remains if it is a pre- May 1945 item.

If it were English it would have British Standard proof marks. The English do not us the sterling mark, only North Americans do.

I believe the ring to be made up.

I saw something similar at a yard sale once...(along with Indian arrow heads)
I believe it could be original and Native American (Indian) related from before the 1930's!
Somebody added German text on the inside to make it a believable German TR piece!
