Panzer coveralls with insignia?

    Panzer coveralls with insignia?

    I have asked on the Axis history forum but haven't got much response, so I am asking here.

    How common were these coveralls? They appear to be Feldgrau HBT and the guy on the left's coveral seems to be grafted on to a HBT feldbluse. It has obviously had a visit to the kompanie tailor. The guy on the right has a single piece one with a different button pattern.

    Also interesting is the two standard collar tabs and one Panzer one.

    Any ideas on what causes the fading down the front only? It doesn't look like it could be just work related contact, as it seems to be too uniform. It almost looks like the acid wash jeans they sell these days.

      The book is Panzer Tactics by Wolfgang Schneider, published by Stackpole Books (2005). It was originally published by JJ Fedorowicz in 2000.

        Those to me look field made or civilian coveralls that were modified with the leg pockets. Aside from the well know issue types and Camo versions types of coveralls used/issued are one of the great unknowns. I think there is a thread on coveralls somewhere on the forum. You can see pictures of mechanics etc. and there are 10 different types of them being worn.

          I have found lots of references to the camo coveralls for the SS but not plain ones worn with insignia. I have seen plenty of pictures of mechanics wearing plain ones over their feldbluse, but not as a uniform.

          The book maintains this type of coverall was issued to the crews and became popular because there was less to snag on the vehicle.

            To me these appear to be a standatd M43 HBT tunic shortened and then joined to HBT pants. It looks like there is a seam line where they meet. The pockets were added on to the pants at the time the uniform was made. IMHO.

              coveralls with this particualr pattern were made for men of s.Pz-Abt 502,
              by a rearfront workshop, acording testimony of one of its members.
              i have not seen those particular coveralls used in another unit.
              and last, i have numbered at least 23 different patterns of coveralls worn in Heer armored units, made with different materials...

                My opinion, too - also looks like the pockets sitting on the pants came from the modified tunics.

                    As i`am also interested in those coveralls we should make a reference thread what was worn, what is in your collection, what is on period pictures!
                    I have some strange in my collection, will post them soon.
