Possible original private purchase perhaps Bryon? The piping does look a bit odd.

Probably the only possibility Sir; but for a wraparound? It would be atypical (for me at least).

I know what you mean....From what I have seen and know of, it was typical for the wearer to apply tresse to existing factory produced straps.

I saw a pair very similar to these a couple years ago and was not convinced either, Bob Hirtz sent them to me to look at, they looked "tailor-made" and had tongues and were the same large size and elongated.

Yes; and I suppose it is not Completely out of the question to have “non standard” straps purchased by the owner for his wraparound.

And of course there is the Ultra Atypical case where black insignia/collars were worn on tailored Pz green dress tunics.

                    Best,
                    Bryon

                      Thanks Bryon,

How do you feel regarding tresse being applied to shoulder straps at the factory? Do you feel this was done in some cases? Or strictly applied by the wearer or at unit level from basic EM's straps after issue?

I have heard people say it was done especially later in the War but I also agree with Mr. Singer, I do not think it was applied as part of the board production or was very rare. Most pictures show tresse being added at unit level etc. and that is supported by what Soldiers told me as well.

If the boards posted are real IMO they are made by a tailor. The buttonholes and stitching I do not ever recall seeing like that. It looks like a basket weave and is very odd. Does not mean it could not be real just unusual.

I have heard a few collectors say the same...I doubt I would ever be able to tell if it was applied at the factory (in some cases) or not.

This looks like the ends were reinforced with threads like they were intended for sewing in and did not have tonuges.
