Restoring a dark collar summer tunic

Wanted a more relevant title to what I'm trying to do but originally discussed here:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=334381

    Award loops being discussed here:

Here's the restoration candidate. I question whether or not I should shorten the sleeves slightly and then utilize the material to in part replace the shoulder board loops which are missing.

The cuff title was on the wearer's left arm, each shoulder seems to have had something removed as well. The collar has evidence of removed tress and collar tabs.

I wouldn't do anything to the sleeve ends, just leave them as they are. For the shoulderboard loops, find a material that is somewhat matching and is period. Sew them on with period made thread.

Then find appropriate insignia in terms of wear to "match" the jacket. When this is applied, use the period thread as well. But, as with any restoration, be careful and make sure it's done professionally and well.

It looks like an interesting jacket. For me, I'd leave it as is.

            Musician/Der Spiess/not a cuff title

            Hi all,

Not a cuff title, it's a first sgt! Both sleeves have the ghost but the right sleeve is more clear. I never checked..didn't pay attention. Also never noticed the shoulders either. If anyone knows how many hooks a musicians swallow's nest has please let me know. I think this could be a musician's Der Spiess tunic.

My thoughts as I scrolled down through the pics, musicians, der speiss. I might be tempted to fold the sleeves up inside, without cutting anything off and tack them up.

Same thoughts with me. You collect a piece of history, if this is how the individual wore it to the end, then that’s how you should preserve it IMO. Of course you might want to add matching insignia; but then only do it like Steelpot describes and if you can't sew, then find someone who can. Otherwise it will always leave you with a dissatisfactory feeling, looking at and having spent good money on the insignia but just missing character.
                Hope this helps.
                Good luck.
