There are WW 1 M-1915 enlisted men's straps that are piped in synthetic piping as well.

Rayon Piping on M-36 Shoulder Straps

While not the norm, rayon piping was certainly used on M-36 straps. Part of this could be due to availability of materials at certain locals. I have had two different M-36 Gebirgs Schule straps, from different sources, with rayon piping. Look in these threads:

M-40 Schulterklappen with with piping.

And it worked the other way around too. Both of these pairs of M-40 Unteroffizier Nebelwerfer straps came from the same source. The pair on the left uses rayon piping; while, the pair on the right goes against the norm and uses wool piping.
