      Wachtmeister

      Hello Holger,
in the German Army of the period the term Feldwebel was not used in the Artillery and the Cavalry, here it was a Wachtmeister (Oberwachtmeister etc.).
Not sure about the Luftwaffe, but since the Flak was the Artillery of the LW I believe they had the same system. Please also note that in the Mountain Troops and Fallschirmjäger there was no rank of Unteroffizier, here it was called Oberjäger. Oh, and in the Cavalry they had no Hauptmann - he was a Rittmeister....
      Best wishes
      Harry

Hi Holger, no, the Uffz is an Uffz also in the artillery, only the feldwebel had a different term. The Unterfeldwebel would be the Unterwachtmeister although I actually never found a photo or unifom of anyone holding that rank, they all went from Uffz right up to Feldwebel.

But just to confuse you a bit more here are some more exceptions regarding the feldwebel

Signal feldwebel in a signal unit = Funkmeister, Oberfunkmeister
Mechanic specialist feldwebel = Schirrmeister, Oberschirrmeister

Enough?? I would recommend the Angolia/Schlicht books on the Wehrmacht, that gives you a good overview - and we have not talked about the Beamte yet....

            Have a great weekend

            Harry
