What collector yoyo would put bright rank insignia on a camouflage jacket? Regardless, nice camo shoulderstraps!

This thread, and the others that are like it are interesting and it is important to note enigmas as far as what was worn in the field etc.

That said it is also very important to to note 90% percent of original stuff is regulation and standard. These pictures should never be used to support that all weird items are real. Most of the nonsense sold with odd patches and atypical applications of foriegn shields etc. is 100% garbage. These types of photos get used too often to support that junk is real and this needs to be noted to less experienced collectors.

        An SS cuff title on a LW fliegerbluse (post 44) could be explained as follows;
Some of the better equipped elite units like the LAH had their own air recon component, flying Storchs for observation and artillery spotting.
This scan shows a picture of an LAH pilot in SS uniform with a LW recon clasp.

Other units had recon aircraft assigned to them from the Luftwaffe along with LW air crews (pilots/gunners and perhaps also aircraft maintenance personnel? ) who were on loan to the SS-Division.
The 2nd image shows a LW pilot with another Storch. Note cowling markings "Prinz Eugen". This unit was heavily involved in "bandenkampf", anti-partisan operations and Storch aircraft were essential to a succesful mission, locating enemy forces. Such LW personnel were allowed to wear SS unit cuff titles on their LW uniforms while serving in support of that unit.

Makes me wonder if this is a "Handschar" Division assigned pilot?
Note sleeve shield! This unit was also heavily involved in anti-partisan operations where Storchs were essential! Handschar did not wear cufftitles...
Could also be a Croation citizen of course...Who knows?
but its a black backed SS type sleeve patch! Another weird combination!

I agree! The patch would indicate he's a driver ...
but perhaps still Storch operations related?

                                Crazy Uniforms

                                Hello guys,
Great thread. I thought I would supply something Kriegsmarine and one of my favorite photos.

Here is U-boat Ace Korvettenkapitaen Peter 'Ali' Cremer. This photo was taken in April of 1945 (Northern Germany) when Cremer was commanding a naval tank-hunter battalion made up of sailors re-trained to attack Allied aka British tanks with a Panzerfaust.

Cremer is wearing a Luftwaffe splinter camo field jacket (complete with KM boards) over a U-boat HBT work suit. It makes a great look with the KM visor and KM awards like the U-boat clasp in silver. This is just really bizarre, but cool.

BTW, the photo came from the book German Commanders of World War II (2) Waffen-SS, Luftwaffe & Navy by Gordon Williamson. Elite Series 132 (page 42), Osprey Publishing.

                                Regards,
                                Jody
