jacquesf is there any evidence of of previous stitching in the linning where the eagle is? maybe a em eagle was removed to make room for the officers eagle?

the m44 boards looks ok from these pictures, basket weave piping is no problem on 44 boards.. arty m44 boards are not easy to find in this brown wool..

Here is what the tunic looked liked. The insignia fits in the indentations, especially the tabs. There are no evidence of an em eagle stitched through the liner, other than the existing one.

I had an interesting find when I restored the officers insignia back to the tunic. When I lifted the eagle I found that it has never been of the tunic, so I left it. I just put the officer collartabs back over the the em collar tabs. It seems the officer never bothered to remove the eagle and just applied the officer shoulder straps and officers collar tabs. I have seen this on period pictures. It is amazing what a tunic can tell about it own history. Jacques

..of course! I don't think that the changement of the eagle was the first thought for a new upgraded Leutnant in those last years!
