    Summer eagle question.

If we take a look at army and navy Summer eagles we see that they have a extra prong attached to the swas ..

Luftwaffe Summer eagles generaly don't have them.., was there any reason ?

Don't have them any more Jos, no reverse photos either, but both the KM eagles I've had, had the extra prong at the swas.

If I may make a suggestion, I believe that it is due to the wear on the tunics. Most Luftwaffe tropical/summer tunics that I have seen them on, the eagle is worn low enough that it intersects the seam of the pocket flap. So, if opening the pocket, the eagle would be in the way with a prong through the swastika.

However, on the Heer/KM eagles, they are worn above the pocket flap and therefore the third prong does not interfere with the usage of the pocket.

In this photo, I believe Smiling Albert's photo of a summer eagle in wear confirms placement. Hard to tell, though.

Yes, John, KM and Heer all have them..

Think Jack is pointing us in the right direction..

Jack, smart thinking, I think you're right .., most of the eagles are touching the button hole, lifting the flap would raise some trouble ..

I've a luftwaffe late war zink eagle with a prong though, the only original with prong I've seen sofar ..
