    Wear of Gebirgsjäger sleeve badge

Sort of an odd question, but were the Gebirgsjäger sleeve insignia considered a qualification insignia that would be worn by soldiers that may have somehow ended up transferred out of a Gebirgsjäger unit - or was it strictly an insignia worn by soldiers actively in such units?

    Thanks,

The regulations changed during the War and were often ignored. Initially (1939) it was only to be worn by personnel assigned to designated GJ units (including support units) but later the badge could continue to be worn by soldiers transfered that had seen combat service as a member of a GJ unit. I also have seen the GJ badge continue to be worn by soldiers transfered into Jager units rather than switching to the oak leaves patch.
