had these pants a long while and got them out to show the interesting red stenciled SU which i believe it US backwards and POW connected. front pant construction v unusual for me....i would really welcome comments on these work trousers...the back adjustable strap looks unusual too, with removable button feature. thanks for looking.

These are normal drilich trousers. The "panels" are large repair patches to replace the knees. As far as I know and have seen in photographs US POW clothing was marked "PW" or "POW".Comment

to update the question on these trousers, i refer to a picture of workers on a bridge structure in bremen harbour during the war. other pics in the series include kz workers in striped uniforms...and other workers wearing clothing with the same stencilled letters as the pants in my thread starter here...so this may put a surge on hopefully uncovering what this SU stencil means...bundesrarchive pic used for research purposes.Comment

there is a note on a holocaust historical web site that says the following...
In Majdanek, the numeration went up to 20,000 and never exceeded that number. The newly arrived received the number of deceased prisoners. There were separate numeration systems, both up to 20,000, for men and for women.
The manner of identification was almost the same as in other concentration camps, Soviet Prisoners of War had the letters SU painted on the back of their jackets.
