Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

What a shame he pulled the pic/s I would have liked to have seen it, i got taken on a well done repro sumpftarn parka myself awhile ago. It was revealed here on the forum and went back to where it came from. What is he trying to do regards Johnno.

              Quite typical, sadly enough.
Glad all worked out for you Johnno with that parka. If I am not mistaken, these were made by an UK-based firm in the late '80s. They are close, but far from close enough. Wrong fabric, wrong weith, and above all, wrong camouflage print.
Was planning on including an Appendix in my book in which I would cover the most frequent fakes, but I figured out that I'd just describe the fully-original examples in painstaiking detail and illustrate them thoroughly.

              Keep well,
              Vincent S.

they are close. as far as quality, these were by far the best repros made of late war marsh reversible... may not be exact but damn near good enough....for reenactment. in actual fact one camo collector here has one in his collection, as a fine stopgap for the real one he is missing. they have fooled many and will continue to do so. a million miles away from all current marsh repros imo. good weight, detailing and basic colours...but ....not...originals. boys back in the barracks!

                    Hi "Steiner",

I know the collector you're talking about, but will not mention his name. He probably knows what he has, but is refusing to accept it. As the saying goes: all comes in seven stages, and the first one is denial.

                    Hans,

I'm sure I have pictures of the fake Sumpftarn '44 picture somewhere. Will look it up.

                      Here you go,

Courtsey of the collector previously mentioned (or should I say "unmentioned" ?)

                        hi

this collector indeed knows about the parka's true fake credentials as i have previously been in correspondence with him to tell him this parka on his site was a fake imo. he agreed with me it is, a damn fine fake all the same, but a fake, and says that it is still nice enough to occupy a place in his collection until an original turns up. as i have said, any reenactor would be proud to own a set of this quality, however far it falls of resembling the real thing to the eyes of a camo expert.

                          Hello
If this is the parka in question , how can you be seriously fooled by it ???

yes, according to the now-removed pic from this thread starter, the last pictured parka is the same manufacture. ref red brown area, button stitching showing through... i recognized it as the same instantly. hence my skepticism. unfortunately the thread starter removed his pics, so no one had good chance to be fooled by it. in fact, no one has actually been fooled by anything on this thread, unless i am very much mistaken.

Thanks for the picture Vincent,is it supposed to represent a 43 Sumpf pattern? On an original jacket fresh from the factory would the thread from the buttons on the white side have been stiched through to the camo side,as on this repro jacket?Cheers Hans.
