    Heer M42 mantel

Recently I've bought a Heer greatcoat. Could you please help me identifying the version? Possibly M42? Why does it have those leather insertions under the sleeve, I can't figure it out

How would you value that item?

    Thanks
    Peter

It's WACHTMANTEL not M42 . These type of coat existed long before 1942.

        Hello,
This Wachtmantel/greatcoat is a variant including leather pieces.
It had a large leather piece sewn on each shoulder....you should have a look on both shoulders in order to find the remains of thread /stitchings...i can see a stitching on the left shoulder in the photo that shows the back...

Thanks a lot for your help!

I'll check for the stitchings on the shoulders. What is the purpose of those leather pieces sewn under the sleeves? Protecting the material from wearing out?

The leather pieces under the sleeves were loops to hold stick grenades.

And the ones on top were to protect the cloth from used of Y-straps/backpacks/K98 slings.
