Now john's pic is an amazing dak general tunic!!! John is it yours? If so can we get some more pics? Matt
No Matt, not mine, belongs to a friend who lives on the other side of the counrty, so more photos will be a long time in coming. The owner is no master with a camera.
Yes.
Generalmajor Heinrich-Hermann von Hülsen, final Africa commander of the 21st Pz. Division.
Several of his uniforms were sold by his family years ago.
This tropical set was obtained then and belongs to an old friend of mine.
One of our members, also a friend, bought his black Panzer wrapper, trousers, and black General's M43 at that same time.
John,
I believe I know the friend of which you speak that has von Hulsen's black panzer uniform, I believe the hat is an M38 panzer schiffchen, not an M-43. There were actually 3 von Hulsen uniforms sold by the family, 1 tropical and 2 panzer. The other panzer uniform has been missing for many years until I turned it up in an old European collection. I posted the schiffchen a couple of times on the Cloth Headgear Forum since it is a one-looker, but no one seemed to care much. Great stuff though, whether anyone else thinks so or not.

Thanks for the correction on the type of cap Richard. Was posting from my (poor) memory and did not go back and look through the photos I have.
So you have the third unifrom? If so, congratulations!
John
Yes...and thank you John. I have the one that disappeared and no one knew where it went. It sat in a closet for 20 years or so with many other high end uniforms and hats. I pulled 3 complete panzer general's uniforms out of this same collection. He used to buy direct from the families in Germany, Austria, etc. I posted von Hulsen's hat in the favorite hat of 2007 thread, page 7.

3 panzer general uniforms that's something NOT short of spectacular!!! Hope you can post them some day, they will be greatly appreciated. This are the type of items and the way they are discovered that keep the "flame" of the hunt alive and well in this hobby.

Federico,
Unfortunately, too many people in this hobby think that they are too rare to exist, and thus tend to be overly critical.....which is why you don't see them posted on here. Check out the Island Camp site sometime though....you'll be amazed at just how many General's you will see on there still wearing their wraps in captivity.

I know what you mean, during the war this things where abundant and not that rare BUT after the war a LOT of this fantastic uniforms, visor hats, field hats etc. where cut off/removed of their insignias as momentos of the war by GI's to take home.......making a great item into "many".
The amount of original untouch general tunics today is extreamly small compared with the amount of Lt.generals and up that where commisioned during the war.
In your site is a recolection of the most incredible and beautiful collection of general regalia from all the branches of the German forces and has been a study center for this type of memorabilia of incredible value, your opinion and insight on this field is greatly appreciated
Unfortunately I share this same opinion as GFM by experience. He is well versed in the high-end, rank wise, of the TR field. It is too easy for another to tear apart something relayed by digital pictures, which are not always representative of the actual piece. Some mean well...others don't, and you can have a piece tainted by someone tossing out a one liner that will come back to haunt you for years.
Here is one of the von Hulsen overseas caps which I have shown before and drew very few comments. If this isn't a panzer general one-looker...then I don't know the meaning of the term. Enjoy,
