As it stands this top had nothing on it.. No stitching marks to indicate an eagle had ever been placed there. I take your opinion in regards to "Dolling up" a piece but my goal is to achieve what would have originally been for a Maschinenmaat.

Wouldn't it be plausible to restore a piece with original insignia to an original representation? I have pondered and discussed with knowledgeable collectors and have decided to not sew the pieces on but there is the possibility of using iron on adhesive just so the insignia is represented as it should be as it will be impossible to achieve 100% original stitching. To me i want to represent it as close as possible to how it would have been. So my perspective is only asking the positioning of the abzeichen and its correctness so i know it to be true. Also i respect your opinions and possibly have already anticipated your feelings but its all about representation of what would have been for this Matrose.

Thanks for your concerns and opinions taken on board but I'm still left with the Q of the trade badges correct placement???

Here is something else i found regarding the eagle...

A dealer has one for sale that appears to have been taken from a shirt i thought it only had 4 feathers at 1st but the picture lets it down, this is probably the answer to my question all along.

This would have been how the eagle is prepared and attached.....

Now just conformation on the positioning of the trade badges and my questions have been answered.

Ok not exactly the white shirt but similar int he fact it offers the same representation of the trade badges...
