As you probably know that the 75th was part of the 5th Light or Jager Div. garrisoned around Stuttgart. I have an artillery officers tunic from this Div. and have owned a second one in years past that was very field worn.

Your tunic is almost certainly wool or at least a mostly wool blend. It probably is very similar to what here in the U.S. is referred to as a tropical weight wool that was so often used in U.S. military uniforms of many years earlier. A tunic of this weight would have seen maybe 4 to 6 months (probably closer to 4) a year of wear in Germany, given the typical weather.

I agree with the other posts regarding the color variations that can be found and to say that these tunics when made unlined and clearly for very warm weather are fairly scarce. I tend to see more General officer and very senior field grade officer tunics made out of the lighter weight wools and then most always they are fully lined .

      Thanks again

Thanks, I also have a heavier, tailor made 5th Artillery Rgt. Tunic and another wool tunic to the 75th. I have seen many different colors in lightweight tunics but not this shade of gray before. Thanks for the info on the 75th, indeed an interesting hard-riding unit.

        John,

Heres a private purchase cap I have made in a similar material/weave. I agree with Diane that its probably a blended fabric maybe wool/rayon. Its also very lightweight but hard wearing. Jim

Jim, it might be a stupid question, but is this the same fabric as used on this schrimutze in this thread, http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=251860 Jacques

I don't believe so.The fabric appears to be heavier and more wool. Of course its only an opinion the pictures in the thread aren't the best.WR Jim

Here is a recent light weight tunic that I just purchased. It has faded to a greenish tan color but under the collar nad pocket flaps it looks like it was a grey color similiar to yours. You can see this very good where the eagle was. Mine has no markings either and is the material is heavier than of the other light weight tunic that I posted earlier. This one shows very little wear but looks like it might have been exposed to some sunlight over time because there are some areas under the arms that are not as faded as the rest of the uniform and you can see where there were wrinkles at one time because that are has not faded with the rest of the material leaving some dark streeks. I am thinking that at one time this tunic might have been stripped and new collar tabs and shoulder boards put on it. There are black threads needle tracks under the collar from other tabs.

The back. You can see under the arms where it has not faded as much.

The slit for the dagger but it looks like there was never a hanger strap sewn on.

                                Grüß Di' Jäger John,

Your tunic looks similar to my Gebirgsjäger Hauptmann's tunic which is made out of whipcord material.
