I believe the "A" you are referring to (for veterinary candidates) is the same as the Heer Artzliche Akademie "A" which is a different gothic font.

Yes, that was what I meant. One is German Gothic upper case and the other is another form.

The English looking upper case "A" is "Textur" Gothic and the other used on Recon boards is "Fraktur" gothic. Anyway, your board is very unusual. I would ask Schulterklappen or Chris V. I have never seen it before which only means that I have not seen it. They may know what it is.

Thank you sir (or bro if you prefer), I had hoped the knowledgeable Johnny R. would have had the precise solution to this riddle and perhaps some other Werfer enthusiast knows something about this cypher. I am convinced it is original and have not totally ruled out a Veterinary connection.

I will ask some of the last Nebel vets I know that are still alive. All the officers are dead now, they would have been more likely to know what it was. I do not think it was for recon activities, maybe something else. Reportedly the Fraktur "A" was used early in the War to indicate soldiers assigned to Armee Command like the "D" for divisions. I will try to figure out what it might be for. At the end of the War there were a lot of larger formations of Werfer units placed under command of ARKOs. I could be for someone assigned to a higher command as staff that was Nebel also when the retreats began and all the equiptment ws lost, nebel men like artillery were assigned to all kind of other units as replacements as drivers etc. infantry etc. Hard to say. Did the family know where he got it? Italy or Belgium etc. ?

I am short on information about the veteran's experiences as I believe he is deceased and they were in the possession of the family, the other straps besides the two werfer straps were all RAD. The pictured strap is a mid war strap produced when the designation of most units were on removeable slides. The exception to this practice were the cadre of schools, training units, recruiters and other personel based in Germany. Perhaps that is where the answer lies.

You know, the easiest explanation would be Panzer-Aufklärer strap with dark "rosa" piping.

                  for comparison

The scan of the strap I provided here is remarkably true to the Waffenfarbe color(s) of the original in hand, that being in the family of Bordeaux red or dark carmine red; I think we can rule out even the darkest of Panzer "rosa" pinks.

Possible identify of this shoulder strap

I believe this strap is for Veterinary Academy.
The useage of a Gothic "A" for Academie rather than the stylized "A"
in refernece books is unusual, but original.
I have a similar Enlisted shoulder strap with chainstitched Gothic A
and Officer and senior NCOs with the more common stylized A.
The nebelwerfer "Bordo" is somewhat varied (as are many of the waffenfarben).
The order of battle of the German Army does not indicate any Aufklarungs
unit in the organization of a Nebelwerfer regiment or Battalion.

In any event, a very nice original strap!

                        My humble collection.

I have close to 300 boards, Luftwaffe, Heer, SS and Kriegsmarine. And this is all I have of Nebel! I am really lagging! 1 non-matching set of tabs, 1 matching set, Sgt. single and a Col. Nebel Schule board. Dave.

Here is an image of the other board that was brought back with the "A" strap; it is a field used Leutnant of Werfer (IMO). See how it compares with the other Waffenfarbe.
