Picked this up not too long ago, it's been heavily modified, but looks legit to me, wanted some opinions on this please, anyone see anything similar ever done? Thanks, Chris....

Hard to say when it was done...You just can't proove that...1944 or 1948? who knows? That's the problem with altered pieces...Right after the war there was a shortage of pretty much everything in bombed out Germany... so many military garments were recycled and transformed in to civilian pieces as there was a huge demand for clothes... The modifications were done to give such garments a less military look so that people (civilians) could wear these. On this forum there was a DAK motorcycle coat which was converted into a female trench coat (buttoned the female way) with added colored trim (piping).
