I don't know Bob as I do not collect them, but doesn't that collar tresse "ride" somewhat low from the upper "collar neck line"?

You're right Bryon it does. That is why there is less collar for the litzen; it rides over the top of the NCO tresse. I'll alert my friend to pay some attention to that area for scrutiny. Does anybody who collects Army here have a problem with this? Is it going to make or break this piece?

        Bob,

Don't you own anything of your own to share? Ha ha...wonderful piece and as always, many thanks for sharing. I have never seen the tresse ride so low on the collar, but it sure makes the tresse stand out in contrast to the dark green. I have seen the collar and cuff litzen override the tresse quite a few times. The shoulder boards are quite nice and very different, even left about an 1/8 of an inch space between the tresse and piping to make it contrast more. The swallows nests are some of the nicest I've seen. I suppose it is possible that they covered the tresse on the end of the board, the tunic in hand will tell. If the pip looks like it's been there forever, he could slip a loop of matching tresse on the board and slide it to the end. It could always be removed later if necessary. That's a quick and easy fix for the apparent rank discrepency. Overall very interesting piece, possibly French or foreign tailored?. Please share some more of your friends items at their convenience.

I wonder if Tim Curley has seen this thread yet and can comment upon the unusual tresse application on the boards and collar.

Would be interesting to see what Tim thinks. However in his book there are lots of examples of the wrong size tresse being used on collars and cuffs (9mm and 15mm etc). So would it not be possible that the wrong size tresse was used on shoulder boards?

              Richard,

Yes, I have a couple of nice tunics of my own They just never seem to fit the threads that are on here. Since this is sort of a thread on dress tunics, here are some photos of one of mine (which my friend in California who has the Kriegsmarine Captain and now the Army Panzer Bandsman Waffenrock is trying to get out of me).

Thank you AZartman. I guess it varies on the tress and how it is put on. I guess my friend's piece is okay then -- I mean no red flags. Of course it looks like these waffenrocks would be troublesome to put together and their prices are still affordable so I'm guessing the fakers aren't interested in them (YET) or unless they put something really dynamite together.

                    Hi

Nice tunic. It is interesting that some bandsmen choose to permanently install the swallow nest. It was done by a tailor. I have one pioneer one like your panzer one. In my tunic the eagle was de-nazified.

                    regards

                    Juan

                      JCSanche,

Yours is just like mine. Your shoulder straps are also missing the piece of tresse at the base -- looks like an Unteroffizier with a pip. Also the tresse around the collar is not all the way up at the top. This is perfect. Thank you for showing us your engineer waffenrock.

Was there some sort of shoulder strap cipher on yours at one time? Looks like something missing just inside each metal pip -- on each side.

I think those are the unit numbers - I've seen pics of Juan's before.

                          Hi Bob

In mine the # 20 is stitched into the boards

From what I have read, they are permanately sewn in on the Waffenrock and removeable on the service uniforms.

That is a beautiful one, Juan!! Again, I notice that the tress at the base of the strap is missing... or is it covered up by the Sparrow's nest?
