Army Feldwebel of Panzer Tunic

A friend of mine has sent me this photo of an Army Feldwebel of Panzer Bandsman Waffenrock that he has just acquired. This is one sharp looking tunic. He said it has stenciling inside with the unit but is having a little trouble decyphering it -- will get back to me.

I agree! I have never seen that type of shoulder board tress. Also, there is a small section of tress missing from the base of each strap, unless the pips were added by a collector. I have not seen too many panzer musician waffenrocks! Y ours is a beauty!

Can we please see a closeup of a strap?

Not wishing to take this too far off topic, but specifically for Paul here's another example of a Panzer musician's waffenrock, photographed in a dealer's catalogue from the late '90s. The shoulder boards were for Panzer Regt 8, and back in the day the asking price was £875/$1488.

Agreed!! Not a common item and quite attractive even if you do not collect waffenrocks!

When I get home tonight I'll check my emails and if he sent along more photos of this, I'll post them for all to see. Of course now he'll need a matching Army Panzer NCO Service Cap. Did the enlisted wear a brocade belt and buckle or just a black leather belt with regular Army enlisted buckle? I'm not up to speed on my Heer!

A nice shiny, black patent leather belt with a bright aluminum buckle would look best and be appropriate with this Waffenrock in my opinion.

Got another email from my friend with some more photos:




He said that the bandsman shoulder devices are not hooked on but sewn on. Maybe there's a piece of tress across the end that we cannot see in these pictures. Hard to believe that somebody would mess around with a waffenrock like this. According to my friend, it's not much more than the other panzer bandsman waffenrock shown in this thread. If it were a $5,000 tunic, then maybe I could entertain some doubts (a la Herr Singer!), but not at this price.

As I stated, this is going to a friend of mine so I won't have it in hand. He lives on the West Coast so not very likely I'll even see it soon -- just the pictures like you. I'm sure he'll be more forthcoming on details once he gets it in his hands.

Here is the outfit that he picked up a couple of months ago. I'm getting the impression that he is going after the dress stuff.








If I remember correctly this is named to a von dem Borne, who was promoted to Vizeadmiral before the end of the war and received the WMC with Swords First Class and the German Cross in Silver around the end of July 1944. Of course this was his Captain's dress jacket, which you can see was updated from Commander (Korvettenkapitan?). It came with his EK1 (1914) and ribbon bar (sewn on) as well as some Bavarian award (white Maltese cross, which is also sewn on). On the lapel is a ribbon for the WMC Second Class. This jacket doesn't have the loops for the DKiS or the WMC since he was awarded those later as an admiral. Now what is it going to cost him to find a service cap with dark-blue cover???

Its interesting hearing the 90's referred to as 'back in the day'. Just goes to show how radically the pricing has changed in recent years.
