camo painted gasmask containers

hello everybody

Does someone can tell me if it was common to paint gasmask containers during wintercampaignes in Russia. I have recently obtained such a white camo-painted container, but i can't make out if it is a postwar apply or its a field-apply. if you want to see some pictures, i will send them to you by mail. thanx in advance for your help.

Generally, finding anything with winter camo is exceedingly rare. The whitewash used by the Germans was water soluable and was required to be removed after winter. This could be done fairly easily with water and a scrub brush. No doubt that more permanent paints were used....but items like these are most easily faked and aged and should be looked at carefully.

Camo gas mask cans are rare, more so than camo helmets. Originals do exist. I would like to see pics of yours and give you my opinion. My email is in my profile..

OK. Thanks. Pictures would be good. I have a desert camo gas maske - not the late war ordnance tan, but truely DAK camo. Will try send/post pictures if I can make the time.
