    Question regarding German ID-disc 'Oflag'

    Dear all,

I got this German ID-disc - stamped: 'Oflag XIII B Teillager z.b.V.' - from a person who told me that it originated from a Dutch Lt. Col. who had been imprisoned during the years 41/45 somewhere in Germany. The disc seems quite interesting. I have several questions:

    A) The model is IMO extraordinary because of its shape (I have seen several of these 'prisoner' discs but they were of the regular square type). Why is this of the regular German ID-disc type?
    B) Why was this a unit 'z.b.V. ("z******252;m besonderen Verwendung") literally translated 'for a specific purposes'?
    C) Can anybody help me in identifying this camp? Any clue would be great!!

    All reactions are VERY welcomed...
    Thanks in advance!

    Best regards,

    Coco

      The Oflag disc..

      Dear Ade,

Thanks a lot for these great reference sites! I did not realize that the Web was also a great source for these questions. With the help of the sites I now know that Oflag XIII B was situated in the Nürnberg area. (To be specific from May 1941 to April 1943 in Nürnberg-Langwasser and after that April 1943 to May 1945 in Hammelburg). So that's a lot more! Great and thanks a lot!

Now the questions regarding the shape of the disc and the
'zbV' addition....I will wait with patience!

      Best regards,

      Coco
