                Surcoat (Ubermantel)

The coat in question is as so called SURCOAT. The coat was intoduced in 1934. It was intended to replace the fur coat and guard coat. Intended to wear by drivers (motor vehhicles / horse drawn wagons with open seats), guards and sentries.

The field grey waterproof surcoat was almost made in the same cut and style as the GREATCOAT. Most important difference overall lining including sleeves and additional slash pockets (muff pockets) ( 2 horizontal with flap and 2 slash pockets) During the war the fabric of the coat chanched in the more field gray basic colors....

It was sized to be worn over the greatcoat....it tended to be longer to.

Yours is an early one...the others are the later ones......
