Marty can I ask how you know it's late war manufacture?

Because they didnt manufacture this style of insignia for army hats until 1944-45 probably the last 12 months of the war...Billbert
Not that dollar value demeans your item but it is a very common vet bringback from ww2 mostly unused as yours is and can be had for as little as 20 bucks..They are seen on m43 caps but not much as the earlier bevo styles..

Thanks. My gut feelings were that the trap was real. It came with a group of Vet brought back items but I know little to nothing about third reich cloth.
