Well...they have been on Helmut's site for some time. And I must admit to having looked at them several times. The price is high for a mistake. There is more right about them than wrong, from what I can tell from the two pictures. The few main things that catch my eye are the "squatty" appearance of the overall embroidery and the thick piping with pronounced weave. As well, the greenish thread that forms the rather large button holes attracts attention...some repro button holes are actually beter ladder stitched than originials I am finding. I'd like to see them opened up and in reverse, but have never asked Helmut to do so. He did not bring these to the Max. Neither are disqualifiers. I own perhaps 5 sets of red piped examples and while I am not home at present to compare...I have in the past and remain with an uncertain opinion.

Were someone to answer my question like I have yours, I would be feeling a little disappointed with the information I have given. Best to stay away from them as I have to date.

Scott you have a good eye! I compared the set with a good arty board of mine. Certainly everything you said rings true. But they sure look good. Jesus glad I'm not searching for more GD insignia.Jim

Scott and Jim thanx for very good feedback. I don't have the knowledge or expertise to purchase GD shouldestraps. How should I go about aquiring some?

Just continue doing what you're doing. Post what you find here and let the GD experts look at them and teach you.
