Rare Japanese flag?

A friend of mine is selling the following Japanese flag and I'm interested in buying it, if the price is right. I believe it's wartime or earlier but unfortunately I don't have a clue which organization it's for. The pole is identical to what is being sold as the only military regimental flag on one site. Anyway if anyone can verify it's wartime, what organization it's from and a value it would be. Jim

I've seen these listed at $1000+ USD when complete with
box, tripod & cover, pole sections, & cherry blossom top.

Thank you for the information. My friend wanted $1500 for the set. Little too pricey for me. I might have gotten him to go lower but since I'm not a flag or Japanese collector, I didn't pursue it. I am half Japanese and thought it might make a nic decorative piece in my apartment. Of course if it had a military connection I probably would have made a deal. Jim
