German Eagle. Large Metal Wall Plaque. Comments please.

Comments regarding this large German Eagle Wall Plaque would be most appreciated. Anyone seen anything similar?
It is 43.3 cms (17ins) wide 15.5 cms (6ins) high and apparently of solid bronze or brass construction.....but this is not confirmed.
Sorry there are no other photos.
    Thanks in advance,
    Terry.

This is a representation of the Reichstag/German Government Eagle -- very nice, and one of my favorite eagle designs. Examples like this one in various sizes were frequently mounted onto buildings and displays. I'm not sure whether the two holes in the wings are original to the period or that they were drilled post-war; perhaps this was an indication of the surface onto which this piece was mounted?

Is this one real or just a cast copy?......no hallmarks listed. I believe originals had foundry marks.............

Good bird to walk away from as real ones really do not exist and there might be 1 or 2 that have come through market that had a chance over the last 10 years.. Wittmann’s Latvian Fakes and Militaria has one up for 4k, of course it’s bad as well.

Yes, Wittmanns is a cast copy -modern or period- who knows- but still a bronze cast copy of an original , he has been informed of this and is selling it as such, Terry's does not look great from the front (eagles legs do not seem to match any known originals) but rear photo's would be needed to confirm.

          Cheers,

I agree with Michael -- Tom Wittmann's Reichstag Eagle (see the link) does appear to be a casting from an original piece; what gives that away IMO is the flawed finish throughout the obverse, which should have been polished smooth, and also the apparent absence of any hallmarks or foundry marks on the reverse. That said, it is still a gorgeous piece...again IMHO!

                German Eagle

Thank you to all those who have replied, much appreciated. I asked about the eagle because I was offered it for £80.00 (approx $106.00) so I pretty much knew it had to be a fake - but I just had to ask! £80.00 was too good to be true, but no great loss as a fake. It never hurts to ask....so I did! Thanks again to you all.
