Canadian captured and Signed Nazi flag- over 40 signatures! Help!
Hi all!
Picked this up yesterday with a small Canadian collection including captured items- the collection included a SS belt buckle, as well as personal badges and effects from the Veteran (Cameron Highlanders of Canada) known as "Bruce".
This flag is huge, and barely fits on my bed! The makers mark is visible in one corner of the flag and is still legible (I believe it reads "DFS DUISBURGER FAHNENFABRIK M.STEINMETZ", and two strengthening squares are on both corners of the flag. I was wondering if anyone could let me know who the flag manufacturer was, what this flag would have been used for and if it could be traced to Normandy or not. The flag is signed "JULY 1944" with a later list of battles the Canadians fought in. Many of the Canadians who signed this are from different units and cities, including Vancouver, Calgary, New Westminster and Toronto!
