    SA Wachstandarte Feldherrenhalle: Flags

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=552841

    The SA Wachstandarte Feldherrenhalle had Sturmbanns stationed in Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, Hattingen, Krefeld and Stettin. What markings would the Sturmbanns had on their flags?

    Have any of these flags survived?

    Interesting question. Have only seen photos of
    the FHH SA-DE presented in 1936, never any of
    lower level FHH. If they existed, I suspect the flag
    corner patches followed the "W" on carmine collars.

      Were the Wachstandarte Feldherrenhalle Sturmbanns numbered or assigned some other sort of unit identifier?

        Another good question. Jill Halcomb'S 1985 book
        "the SA" (ISBN 85-072922) page 199 cites W-FHH
        carmine tab numerals as white, piping as silver,
        which implies their sub-units were number ID'd.

        Maybe someone has some of their uniform collars?

          I have seen once one photograph where members from the FHH are marching behind a flag (not standard). Pitily one cannot see the patch. All members of the unit do wear the FHH typical gorget, except the flag-bearer. He had to use the common heart-shaped gorget. His two flag-companions do wear the FHH gorget. The photograph will be included in my new coming-up book (possibly released in about February 2012 with about 1,500 photographs), related to Third Reich gorgets for standard- and flag-bearer's and for those who were into "police" activities!

          In an addendum to the "Verordnungsblatt der Oberste SA-Führung" (18/38) from November 28, 1938 the SA-flags were once again brought to the attention of the SA-groups, while many flags were not according to regulations. In this in-depth regulation the various symbols for the special forces were included (Nachrichten, Marine, Pionier and Sanitäts-units). The FHH was not mentioned at all. This is of course very strange!

          In my opinion the patch would have a Roman number and the W for Wachstandarte in the beginning and later a Roman number and the FHH symbol, when this was introduced for the collar-patches. This is my guess! Maybe Bob Coleman, Erich Benndorf or Laurens can give us here a hand!

            according the Organisationsbuch from 1937 the FHH colors were:
            crimson with white numbers, crimson/white pipings, silver buttons. The abbreviation was the "W";
            In the OB from 1938 the abbreviation was not included anymore (the symbol came into being). The earlier mentioned colors were the same, but instead of silver the indication aluminum was used;
            OB 1940: the; crimson/white piping was not mentioned anymore, but medium-brown/aluminum was;
            OB 1943: crimson patch, white numbers, aluminum button-color, aluminum patch piping.

              Wim, that sounds like a very interesting photograph. I don't recall seeing any photographic or other documentation showing the FHH marching with a Sturmfahne--only with the 'DE' Standard. And please let us know when the new book is available!

                Ditto that. Also the J.H. SA book only shows
                a script W on a carmine tab without numerals,
                so has someone seen other FHH uniform collars?

                  Now you can see the FHH in parade with their own flag and not a DE.

                  I've had these photos now about 20 years, these were taken 18 April 43. One is on Agfa paper so these are not reproduced but original images

                  Unfortunately, the corner patch cannot be seen, but the close up where the flag carrier with his sidekicks show the corner patch but that cannot be read to which numerical designation the flag is attributed to to.

                  Interesting to note that theflag carrier is and in the center and where the troop is seen together en- masse the flag carrier is the tallest amongst the group.

                  With the bottom image it looks like the flag carrier is wearing his gorget under the flag carrying strap.

                    Heres another with the troop at parade attention for either the start or finish of their parade march.

                      Nice FHH parade photos, FT collar showing appears to be rank.

                        great photographs, especially the one where the three FHH-members are better visible.
                        It is only slightly visible, but the flag-bearer does wear the heart-shaped SA gorget (as he should). The companions are in service and therefore do wear the regular FHH gorget. Thanks for showing these photographs!

                            Is it correct what I see: Did somebody notice that the flag with the three marching in front may have one side having another color for the white inner field. The circle and flag seem to be in the same color. Notice also that the entire flag is edged for a few centimeters, next to the frings.

                              I think the apparent color aberrations are due to the sunlight and shadow effect on the translucent flag cloth. It does look as though there might be a border of some sort.
