Hi guys i thought it would be better to post this in the imperial section but i noticed other imperial flags here as well. What is your opinion on this and what would a fair value be?

What are the flag's measurements? Are there any discernable markings on the edge?
The value of Imperial flags in fine condition vary according to the period when they were made. A flag that actually dates from the Imperial era is worth more than one made during the Weimar or Third Reich periods. Flag markings can help determine the age. A typical size flag, 3x5 (100x170) to 5x7' (170x250) flag that is attributable to the period, could be priced from $450-750.
Yours would seem to be original based on its extensive wear. Flags flown on ships would be subject to wind and weather and would eventually tear and fade. There were regulations for service flags regarding the amount of use related damage they could have before they were required to be replaced. Airships, for example, could fly the flag until only the section with the Iron Cross remained.
Your flag is in relic condition that appears to be from actual use.
For most collectors, however, this is a negative in terms of value. They prefer items in as best condition possible and would rather pay more for something in good condition. Others like relics because they have historic interest. The value then is created by its provenance rather than the item itself.
If you can relate the flag to a specific ship, or other source (battlefield, building, campaign etc), and could prove it, that would help the value. Otherwise, the price would be based on its size and the interest of the collector.Last edited by paulj; 07-02-2011, 09:18 AM.Comment

I wasn't sure about it and thought to get some opinions first.

Apparently enough collectors liked it to bid it up to almost 100 Euro.
It wasn't particularly large either at 38x50 cm or roughly 15x19".
There's certainly more affinity and familiarity with Imperial items among German collectors. Personally, I liked it for the wear and tear. I actually prefer items with character as opposed to the mint and unissued many collectors like.Comment

Interesting flag shown on the link. The flag illustrated is a great testament to the more-things-in-Heaven-and-Earth school of collecting thought. The eagle's head faces in the opposite direction, the crown floats and the tongue doesn't.

The remnant is apparently from L9 but represents the condition of flags from the other air ships cited.
The damage is from wind and the elements. When the ship's flag had deteriorated to this point, it had to be replaced.Comment
