From online sources ..."The German Imperial Tricolour Flag
is a combination of the Black and White of the Prussia Flag and
the Red and White of the Brandenburg Flag. In 1867 this Flag
was adopted by the North German Confederation, and in 1871
it was used as the Merchant Flag for the German Empire. In
1892 it was declared to be the National Flag of the Second Reich
and continued to be used until 1918. The German Imperial Flag
was reintroduced between 1933 and 1935, prior to World War II,
and used jointly with the Nazi Swastika Flag." I have seen
Imperial examples on the WAF, with maker marks, and
some 3rd Reich versions likely also had such marking too.
